Bridge Capital mulls art gallery for CNMI artists

After its generous donation for the 31st Annual Flame Tree Arts Festival, Bridge Capital, LLC now looks at sponsoring a venue where Arts Council-registered artists can display their work conspicuously “on a more permanent and larger scale.”
“We just need to find a location,” office manager/chief asset manager Allen Perez told Arts Council staff in a meeting at the Bridge Capital office last week.
Perez emphasized that the location should be “accessible to the masses” to get a lot of promotion for talented local artists.
Garapan, he said, would be an ideal location for many people because of the ease of access not only for the artists but also the viewing public, unlike the current Arts Council gallery next to the post office in Capitol Hill.
However, there are properties in Garapan that are big enough “but the cost is unreasonable,” said Perez.
He added that government buildings or properties can also be utilized for this art gallery.
Perez assured that Bridge Capital will continue to work with the Arts Council to find the right location for the art gallery.
“Bridge Capital could really be the catalyst to get this thing going and our idea is just to have our local artists have a venue to display and sell their artwork. With the assistance from Arts Council and other government agencies and private or non-profit groups, we could make this happen,” added Perez.
Arts Council executive director Angel S. Hocog welcomed the news, saying that this initiative could well be the gallery that the council has longed for the CNMI’s traditional and contemporary artists.
