BREAKING NEWS: Tropical storm condition cancelled
The tropical storm condition 3 for Rota, Tinian and Saipan has been canceled but Tropical Depression 28W has now been upgraded into a tropical storm.
Based on information received from the National Weather Service in Tiyan, Guam, and compiled at the CNMI Emergency Operations Center-State Warning Point, the center of Tropical Storm 28W is moving northwest at 12 mph. It is expected to make a slight turn toward the west-northwest with little change in forward speed over the next 24 hours.
As of 7pm tonight, Tropical Storm 28W was about 175 miles west-northwest of Rota, about 180 miles northwest of Guam, about 180 miles west of Tinian, and about 190 miles west of Saipan, with maximum sustained winds of 40 mph and moving northwest at 12 mph.
Maximum sustained winds have increased to 40 mph.
Tropical Storm 28W is forecast to intensify through Saturday. Tropical storm force winds extend outward from the center up to 120 miles.
Because of Tropical Storm 28W no longer poses a threat, Gov. Ralph DLG Torres has cancelled tropical condition for the islands of Rota, Tinian, and Saipan as of 8pm this evening. (PR)
