BREAKING NEWS: Torres wins election; will square off with Palacios in runoff

Gov. Ralph DLG. Torres and his running mate, Sen. Vinnie Vinson F. Sablan (R-Saipan), won the Nov. 8, 2022, general election, but failed to gain a majority vote, paving the way for a runoff race against Lt. Gov. Arnold I. Palacios and his running mate, Saipan Mayor David M. Apatang, according to the Commonwealth Election Commission’s unofficial tabulation results.

The Torres-Sablan tandem of the Republican Party obtained 3,007 votes from early voting, 2,149 votes during Election Day, and 570 from absentee voting, for a total of 5,726 votes, or 38.84% of the total votes cast.

Palacios and Apatang of the unified independent team received 2,129 from early voting, 2,204 from election day, and 557 votes from absentee voting, for a total of 4,890 votes, or 33.16% of the total votes cast.

Rep. Christina E. Sablan (D-Saipan) and her running mate, Rep. Leila Havela Staffer  (D-Saipan), of the Democratic Party, came in third after obtaining 1,755 votes from early voting, 1,973 during Election Day, and 404 absentee votes, for a total of 4,132 votes, or 28.02% of the total votes cast.
