On Saturday, April 29, 2023, DPS 911 Dispatch received a call at 1:13m regarding a distressed swimmer at the north side of Marine Beach in Kagman.

Officers arrived at the beach around 1:59pm and spoke with friends of the swimmer, who informed them that a giant wave had swept a 15-year-old male out into open water while swimming with friends.

At around 2:41pm, the Boating Safety impact boat began a search for the victim along the reef line while DFEMS (SARU Unit) assisted with the open-water search on their rescue boat. On April 29, 2023, at approximately 5pm, the U.S. Coast Guard helicopter arrived to help with the aerial search.

The search for the distressed swimmer continued on April 30, 2023, at 6am, with the assistance of multiple organizations, including USCG (helicopter and cutter vessel), CPA Ports, Customs Biosecurity Maritime Enforcement, and DFEMS.

The search will continue tomorrow, May 1, 2023, with additional assistance from the Bureau of Environmental and Coastal Quality and DNLR’s Division of Fish and Wildlife. (DPS)
