Boys caging, girls volleyball, football next in MISO season
The Marianas Interscholastic Sports Organization is now working on the schedules for the respective seasons of the boys high school basketball and girls high school volleyball and football.
MISO member schools have until Friday, Dec. 5, to inform executive director Nick Gross of their intention to join each league.
Varsity (grades 9 to 12, with 12-member roster); junior varsity (grades 9 to 11, with 15-player roster) and 9th graders only (15-man roster) are qualified to join in the boys basketball league.
The girls volleyball will have varsity (grades 9-12, with 15-member roster) and JV (grades 9 to 11, with 15-player roster). The girls football will also have varsity (grades 9 to 12, with 18-player roster) and JV (grades 9 to 11, with 11-member roster).
All schools competing in each league are required to submit their student-athletes’ most recent grades with a minimum grade point average of 2.25, latest sports physical, and the parents/guardian waiver form to be eligible to compete this season.
Only varsity teams will play for the season-ending tournaments, which will have a double-elimination round format. Organizers are also finalizing the dates and will announce them later.
A coaches and officials technical meeting will be scheduled before the Christmas break or not later this month.
Marianas High School swept all three events last year: boys basketball and girls volleyball and football.
Early this season, MHS topped the girls basketball event for the fifth straight year after a 78-67 win over Mt. Carmel School, while Saipan International School clinched its third consecutive crown in the boys’ volleyball, winning against Grace Christian Academy. (Jon Perez)
