Bordallo supports lawsuit for war reparations
HAGÅTÑA, Guam—Congresswoman Madeleine Z. Bordallo released the following statement on the announcement made by Senator Frank Blas Jr. to sue the federal government for war reparations.
“I continue to support any effort to resolve the issue of war claims for our man’amko who endured suffering of the occupation during World War II. Though I have been successful in passing Guam War Claims legislation five times in the House, our efforts have faced significant opposition from conservatives in the Senate. As I stated in my Congressional Address, I welcome and support any effort to resolve war claims through a federal lawsuit. I commend Senator Blas and the bi-partisan group he’s assembled for leading this effort and offer my support to their efforts. However, I will not cease in my determination in doing all that I can to move this issue forward in Congress despite the persistent opposition. That is why I have reintroduced H.R. 44, the Guam World War II Loyalty Recognition Act because resolving war claims for the survivors of the occupation is the right thing to do and I hope that we are able to accomplish this goal by any means necessary.”
