WASHINGTON, D.C.—Delegate Madeleine Z. Bordallo (D-GU) issued the following statement regarding an announcement by the governments of North and South Korea that they intend to officially end the Korean War.

“The meeting between North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and South Korean President Moon Jae-in demonstrates that diplomacy can and should be the way forward to reduce tensions and bring an end to this conflict. This was an important step, and I encourage all parties to commit themselves to promoting a lasting peace for the betterment of the Korean people and the security of the region.

“As these talks continue, I hope President Trump and his administration will play a key role in supporting this effort and reassuring our allies in the region. American leadership will be critical to this process, and I look forward to a positive outcome that will reduce threats to Guam, our nation, and the Asia-Pacific region.” (PR)
