WASHINGTON, D.C.—Delegate Madeleine Z. Bordallo (D-GU) issued the following statement last week on the passing of former Merizo mayor Ignacio “Buck” Cruz.

“I am deeply saddened by the passing of former Merizo Mayor Buck Cruz. Buck was a dear friend and a dedicated public servant for the people of Merizo and our entire island. As a survivor of the occupation of Guam during World War II, Buck was a member of Guam’s greatest generation, and he served our country with distinction, attaining the rank of master gunnery sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corps. He was a strong advocate for seniors, our environment, and culture, and I will always remember his leadership during my husband Ricky’s administration. I join our entire community in mourning Mayor Buck Cruz’s passing. I extend my condolences to his family and loved ones. He will be deeply missed but memory will live on through all who knew him.” (PR)
