HAGÅTÑA, Guam—Congresswoman Madeleine Z. Bordallo today announced that the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Health Resources and Services Administration has awarded the Guam Department of Public Health and Social Services (DPHSS) $1,911,541 in federal grant assistance.

The grant was awarded to the Guam Department of Public Health and Social Services to fund the Pacific Basin Community Health Center project from April 2016 to March 2017. The funding will support the DPHSS Northern and Southern Region Community Health Centers by funding operations costs and contract obligations with medical providers.

“With the support from the community, the Health Resources and Services Administration, the local government and Congresswoman Bordallo, we are able to provide services to the medically underserved who are in most need and least able to find,” said Project Director and DPHSS Health Services Administrator, Linda Unpingco DeNorcey.

“Guam’s Northern and Southern Community Health Centers provide critical health services and increased access to quality care on island,” said Congresswoman Bordallo. “This grant will help our community health centers to continue their mission of providing comprehensive primary care to underserved, indigent, and uninsured populations. I commend the staff and management of our community health centers for nearly three decades of serving and empowering patients. I will continue to advocate for funding such as this during the federal appropriations process and I look forward to our health centers’ continued work for our people.” (PR)
