Blue Eagle outclassed Vision RNV, 88-84, in the Open Division game in the United Filipino Organization IT&E 2019 Basketball League last Thursday at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium.

Preston Basa top-scored for Blue Eagle with his 21 points despite failing to hit a basket in the first period. He earned all his points from the 3-point area and drilled three triples in the fourth quarter to keep Blue Eagle in the lead. Andrew Ashburn and Douglas Schmidt also hit timely baskets in the fourth period to help ward off Vision RNV.

The final quarter started with Blue Eagle holding on to a 65-60 advantage, thanks to Jaymark De Guzman’s 8 points in the third period and two triples from Basa. With De Guzman and Basa working together in the penultimate quarter and five more Blue Eagle players scoring, the game that ended in a deadlock at the break, 44-all, headed into the final frame with the eventual winning team gaining momentum.

Vision RNV tried to rally in the fourth canto behind Errol Peredo, Elmer Esdrelon, Junar Guiab, and Tristan Cosino, who had two field goals apiece in the decider. However, the Blue Eagle kept up with Vision RNV in scoring with Basa still waxing hot from beyond the arc and drawing help from Schmidt and Ashburn, who made 4 points apiece in the final canto. Bart Demapan and De Guzman also scored in the fourth, adding one field goal apiece.

De Guzman finished with 20 markers, while Schmidt, Manolo Manalo, and Ashburn also delivered twin digits for the Blue Eagle after recording 13, 11, and 10 markers.
