Block Magic and Rebels drew first blood in the 33rd season of the Saipan Rocball League.

Block Magic opened its campaign in the new season with a 52-14 juiced-out win against McNasty last week at the outdoor court of the Marianas High School. A juiced-out victory is handed to the team that won the fourth set and led the game.

J.C. Besid led Block Magic’s debut win after scoring 8 points off four aces. Block Magic and McNasty combined for 10 aces and three xunks in last week’s match. There were also one key and one goal scored in the Block Magic- McNasty tiff.

In the other game last week, Rebels earned a similar easy victory versus MXB, 54-23. Rebels prevailed in the fourth set en route to the juiced-out win.

Nak Nakashima starred for the Rebels, as he finished with 7 points off two goals and one kee. Two more goals were recorded in the Rebels-MXB pairing and the opposing teams also totaled 15 aces and five kees.

Meanwhile, six other teams are entered in this season’s competition. Completing the field are the Teachers, Veterans, Nangka Namu, Originals, A-Team, and Roc-Wid-It.

Games in the ongoing league are played during lunch break at the court near the MHS Gymnasium, which is still unavailable after the facility sustained significant damage from Typhoon Soudelor, which hit Saipan last Aug. 2.
