Cafe de Hei reopened last Friday after eight months of being shut down due to the COVID-19 pandemic. To celebrate its return, owner Yun Hee Choi has launched a buy-two, get-one promotion on its signature black sugar bubble tea drink.

The promotion will be for a limited time only and will last from Nov. 13 to 22. “If you buy two drinks we will give you a free cup of black sugar bubble tea. We also have plans for various promotions in the future,” she said.

Because of the coronavirus threat, Café de Hei had to stop operations just four months after it opened. “It has been temporarily closed for about eight months since the first week of March. People were very cautious of the new virus and, as a result, business was very slow.”

Reopening after being closed nearly eight months is pretty much like opening day again for Choi and her staff. “I am preparing for the reopening with nervousness, just like when I first opened. When I’m ready and have set it up, I will make a new item.”

She is also thankful that despite the long sabbatical, Café de Hei’s loyal customers are still looking forward to their reopening.

“As we all know this virus has caused the whole world to be very serious. We all thought safety was more important to each other. Loyal customers were asking questions about the reopening since June. I was so thankful to the loyal customers who were interested in the cafe during eight months of rest.”

“It is cleanliness that is very important against the virus. I think cleaning and disinfecting with alcohol is the most important thing to prevent against the spread of the virus,” said Choi.

Aside from black sugar bubble milk tea, Café de Hei also serves Nespresso capsule coffee, other hot and cold drinks like frappes, coffee, smoothies, and, of course, different kinds of tea. It also has an assortment of breads, home-made ricotta cheese salad, French fries, crackers, honey bread, and home-made ricotta cheese on its menu.

“Thank you so much to our loyal customers who are interested in Café de Hei. I will continue to repay your loyalty with delicious food and drinks,” said Choi.
