Black Panthers, 2 others sweep opponents

The Black Panthers, We Are Groot, and the Old Aces topped their respective opponents in the Avengers Volleyball League last week at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium.
The Black Panthers bested the As Guardians in the first set of their game last Friday, 25-15, and completed the sweep with a 25-14 triumph in the second.
Also in last Friday’s match, We Are Groot downed D’Challengers in the opening set, 25-15, and notched an even easier victory in the second, 25-7, for the straight set win. We Are Groot had another game last week and this time it took them three sets to surpass As Guardians. We Are Groot came out the victor in the first set, 25-21, before losing its footing in the second, as it was subdued by the As Guardians, 25-17. In deciding third set, We Are Groot avenged their loss and escaped past the As Guardians, 15-13.
In other results, the Old Aces faced Straight Outta Nowhere in last Friday’s set of matches and also dueled Iron and Spike last Wednesday.
Against the Straight Outta Nowhere, the Old Aces took a 25-23 victory. However, the Old Aces could not close out early, as Straight Outta Nowhere pulled off a 26-25 triumph. The Old’Aces then regrouped and nipped Straight Outta Nowhere in the decider, 15-12. Versus the Iron Spike, the Old Aces was able to take the win after only two sets, 25-19, 25-23.
Meanwhile two more matches were played last week with Revengers battling Iron Spike and the Revengers squaring off against the D’Challengers.
Iron Spike edged Revengers in the first set, 26-24 and finished the match with a 25-18 triumph in the second.
The D’Challengers also handed the Revengers defeat, but this time the match went to three sets. The D’Challengers hammered Revengers in the first set, 25-12, before the latter took the second, 25-17, to remain in contention. D’Challengers fought back in the third set for a close 17-15 win.
Meanwhile, games in the Avengers Volleyball League will resume today at 7pm.
