Naval Facilities Engineering Systems Command Pacific has awarded a $221.69-million firm-fixed price contract to Black Micro Corp. of Barrigada, Guam on April 19 for construction at the Tinian International Airport in the CNMI.

“As part of our Pacific Homeland, the CNMI is vital to the defense and economic prosperity of our region,” said Joint Region Marianas commander Rear Adm. Benjamin Nicholson, who is the senior Indo-Pacific Command military official in the region. “Military construction investments in critical infrastructure for the CNMI remain a priority for the Department of Defense. I am extremely pleased to see that a construction company based in this region has been contracted to perform this important work.”

The work to be performed includes the construction of a cargo pad with taxiway extension, fuel tanks with receipt pipeline and hydrant system, airfield development Phase I roads, and a maintenance support facility, under the Asia Pacific Stability Initiative.

“The improvements to the Tinian International Airport will strengthen the island’s ability to efficiently and effectively conduct airport operations,” Nicholson said. “For example, the new taxiway will benefit both military and civilian aviation by allowing for simultaneous movement of multiple aircraft. This is another great example of communities working together toward mutually-beneficial objectives for a free and open Indo-Pacific.”

Work is expected to begin immediately with substantial completion anticipated expected by October 2026.

Black Micro Corp. is the Guam-based subsidiary of Tutor Perini Corp. , a leading civil, building and specialty construction company that is listed in the New York Stock Exchange. (PR)
