Consider the bigger monetary incentives as an added motivation for athletes competing in the 2019 Pacific Games in Samoa:

Northern Marianas Sports Association president Michael White, during the 2018 NMSA/Tan Siu Lin Foundation Annual Sports Banquet held last week at the Fiesta Resort & Spa Saipan, said that bigger rewards will be given to athletes/teams that will bring home medals from this summer’s competition in Apia.

“We would like to congratulate all the medal winners in last year’s Micro Games in Yap,” said White, who led the awarding of $150, $100, and $75 to the gold, silver, and bronze medalists, respectively. “We would like to recognize your efforts through these incentives and NMSA assures you that bigger rewards will be given to athletes/teams that will win medals in the Pacific Games this year,” the NMSA head said.

White’s announcement drew loud cheers from those present at the awards ceremony. Teams/athletes who competed in swimming, athletics, weightlifting, canoe, and baseball received the monetary incentives from NMSA. Weightlifters Angel San Nicolas, Antoinette Labausa, Rodrigo Ada, Bonnie Cruz, and Joey Tudela delivered 15 medals for the CNMI, including six golds, while athletics gave the Commonwealth 13. Swimming gained five medals, while canoe and baseball contributed two and one, respectively.

Except for baseball, the sports federations mentioned above will also send athletes/teams to the Pacific Games, along with golf, tennis, and rugby 7’s. Basketball (3×3) and volleyball have yet to fully commit to the Games that will be held from July 7 to 20.
