SAN JOSE, Tinian—Bridge Investment Group “1 plus 2” program gives entry level construction employees an opportunity to shadow skilled workers to gain hands-on knowledge. Job shadowing is an essential component of the workplace on-the-job training and for this reason, it requires patience, time and attention.
BIG employee Estevan Borja III was hired late last year as a security officer. He started out as a part-time employee then eventually moved up to full-time employee. Borja remained under the security division for about three months before he expressed his interest in the construction steel work division. Borja’s lateral transfer to the welding division became effective March 2016 in line with BIG’s training and development program. Rolando Palilio, the welding supervisor with 15 plus years of experience in steel work, was assigned to mentor Borja. Palilio states that, “Mr. Borja has learned a great deal since he transferred and I will continue to teach him everything I know and hopefully more. I look forward to training more employees who are interested in this division.” With numerous projects assigned to the division such as the bicycle racks, guard houses, trailers, etc. Borja has been a part of the development process.
“I would watch steel work videos on YouTube and practice at home. I’ve always been interested, so this job suits me. Been given this opportunity to shadow Mr. Palilio and starting OJT training, I definitely learned a lot. I appreciate the opportunity the company has given me and with these skills, I could take anywhere. Thank you BIG!” said Borja
BIG believes that all entry level employees must be trained and given the opportunity to develop and reach their full potential and enable them to achieve superior performance of their duties.
