Gregorio Kilili Sablan

Delegate Gregorio Kilili Sablan (Ind-MP) said over the weekend that President Joe Biden supports eliminating the Medicaid funding caps for U.S. territories and aligning the matching rate with the States.

Sablan said in his e-kilili newsletter that his requests for insular area inclusion in the President’s fiscal year 2022 budget were successful, based on Biden’s budget proposal released Friday.

Sablan said he introduced H.R. 265 that would take the first step: lifting the Medicaid cap.

H.R. 265 seeks to amend Title XI of the Social Security Act to eliminate the general Medicaid funding limitations for U.S. territories. The delegate said H.R. 265 now has 65 cosponsors and was recently mentioned in the Kaiser Family Foundation issue brief as a solution for insular Medicaid.

The Kaiser Family Foundation is a nonprofit organization focusing on national health issues, as well as the U.S. role in global health policy.
