Bayani ends Laguna’s streak
Bayani/LBT Appraisal recorded another easy win after cruising past Laguna/Twinkle/Erika’s, 82-67, during the second game in the 2012 UFO Masters Budweiser Cup last Thursday night at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium.
Bayani, which came from an 89-59 rout of MAFEA/CMI last Tuesday, capitalized on the absence of Laguna forward Hae Jun Park to walk away with a 15-point victory. Bayani now has a 3-1 record for second place behind the undefeated MDX/Armatech (4-0), while Laguna fell to a tie for third with Batangas/Fong’s Bakery (2-2).
With Park, who averaged in double figures in Laguna’s back-to-back wins, missing the game, the team struggled early on offense, making only four field goals and 11 points n the first period.
In contrast, Bayani ran a well-oiled offense anchored on Tony Diaz, who knocked in 11 in the opening canto for their 23-11 lead.
Bayani protected the double-digit lead in the next three quarters and although Laguna managed to cut the once 25-point deficit to 10, 66-76, the latter ran out of time in the end.
Diaz paced Bayani with his 15 points, while Lilio Tiples and Ed Cosino contributed 12 and 11, respectively.
Edgar Pangelinan led Laguna with his game-high 28 markers, while Sonny Ebuen and Dindo Pablo had 10 apiece.
