Saipan All-Stars, CNMI jr. netters excel
The CNMI Junior Tennis Team and Saipan All-Stars posted big wins last week.
The Commonwealth netters dominated the 2012 North Pacific Qualifying Tournament in Guam, topping five of the six singles competitions. Thea Minor and Christian Miller ruled the U18 age group, Michael Ren and Carol Lee prevailed in the U12 division, and Mikayla Lopez won the U15 category. The CNMI netters triumphed over Guam, Palau, and the Federated States of Micronesia players.
In baseball, Saipan swept the 2012 CNMI District Tournament. The host shut out Tinian in the Majors, 9-0, to earn the right to represent the CNMI to the 2012 Asia Pacific Regional Tournament next month in Guam.
In the Junior League, the Saipan All-Stars also triumphed and this time crushed Rota, 15-1, while the host’s Senior and Big League teams were victorious against Rota, 12-5, and15-5, respectively.
Meanwhile, other on-going leagues/competitions on Saipan continued last week.
In the IT&E badminton tournament, Alma and Joel Ortega clinched the mixed doubles C crown, while Toshiko Obata and Oh Im Bog took the mixed doubles B championship. The other divisions (mixed doubles C and men’s and women’s singles A, B, and C divisions) had their playoff games.
In basketball, the UFO Budweiser Cup had MDX/Armatech winning the battle of undefeated teams against Bayani/LBT Appraisal, while Bayani/DYS downed the then unbeaten MDX/Mariana Resort in the U20 division of the Docomo Pacific Cup.
Still in basketball, the Fastbreakers remained perfect in fives games in the DLX/DL JOS caging after winning over Sinigang last week, while KFC had its three-game winning streak snapped by Banahaw.
Other basketball games played last week were from the Blue Haus caging and Docomo Pacific youth leagues.
In soccer, Shirley’s FC and Paire won their respective semis games to advance in the women’s league finals, while the CNMI U13 Team played in the AFC U13 Girls Football Tournament in Nanjing, China.
