Noriko bags CWGA June Ace plum
Noriko Togawa topped 14 other golfers en route to winning the CNMI Women’s Golf Association’s June Ace of the Month Tournament last Saturday at the Laolao Bay Golf Resort’s west course.
Togawa started out solid with an even 40 on the front nine and finished strong on the backside with a 37 for a field low gross total of 77 that calculated into a 74 net score that held up against the competition.
Notably, new member Jeon Me Ae was just one stroke behind Togawa at the turn and finished the course with a 40 on the back nine for a raw tally of 81 that would have put her in third place behind Yuko Togawa (80) before the handicap adjustment. However, being a new member, her total was not included because her handicap is still being formulated. Yuko Togawa finished in seventh place with a 77 net count.
Masayo Miyamoto scratched a 45 on the way out and pulled into the club house with a 39 for an 84 gross total that worked into a 75 net card, good for second place.
She tied Mio Kim and Terry Guerrero’s net scores, but received the nod via the handicap rule; Kim posted a 46 and a 41 for an 87 gross total, while Guerrero grossed a 90 (45/45) during her round.
Togawa joins May Ace Xiao Lin Wang as qualifiers into the season-ending two-round CWGA Ace of Aces Tournament slated for April of next year. The CWGA season starts and ends annually in April.
Togawa is the group’s two-time overall gross score winner and finished second place in points behind two-time category champ Shiori Onoue last year. Yi Su Jeong won total net score honors in 2011.
Established in March 2007, CWGA is a nonprofit organization founded to promote, encourage, and introduce women to the sport of golf in the CNMI.
The CWGA utilizes a standard net score format, where a predetermined point system is tallied during the season.
First place is awarded 15 points, 14 for second, and so on down through the Top 10 finishers, and the rest receive a point for participation each month.
