SUFA softball fundraiser tourney set
The SUFA softball Association is holding another fundraising softball tournament and it is set from June 30 to July 1 at the Capitol Hill Ballfield.
Proceeds raised from the event will go toward the group’s trip to Boise, Idaho where they will compete in the 2012 CNMI Labor Day Softball tournament. This is the second time the competition will be held in Boise.
There is a $100 entrance fee per team.
The fundraiser tourney will follow a double-elimination format with one modified coed rule, which stipulates that at least two female players must be both in the lineup and on field at all times.
Prizes are up for grabs, but have not been determined yet.
SUFA is a non-profit organization that raises its own funds every year in order to represent the CNMI in the popular Labor Day event held in the mainland. The event has also been held in Las Vegas, Seattle, San Diego, and Portland in the past.
CNMI teams from Idaho, California, Washington, Hawaii, Arizona, and Nevada have also traveled annually to be a part of the congregation.
In Chamorro, “sufa” translates to “pushing or hitting” something.
This year marks the SUFA’s fifth appearance in the event.
This year Labor Day falls on Sept. 3.
PAC-Chain topped 20 other squads to win last year’s event over, which was held in Portland, Oregon, while unfortunately SUFA was the first team ousted, but they have beefed up their roster and vow to turn in a better performance this time around.
