DLX/Irish Spring extended its winning streak to three after outclassing Marianas Water, 68-59, in the Bracket A game in the 2012 DLX/DL JOS Inter-Color Basketball League last Friday night at the Gualo Rai Basketball Court.

After a slim 51-50 lead at the end of the third period, DLX/Irish Spring limited Marianas Water to nine points in the fourth quarter en route to the 9-point win.

Art Trajano led DLX/Irish Spring’s victory with his season-high 25 points. He was the lone DLX/Irish Spring player to score in double figures, but he still drew enough contribution from his teammates, as four of them made at least six points apiece.

Bernard Montano was one the four, nailing DLX/Irish Spring’s last four points to put the team in front, 51-50, after falling behind at the break, 31-36.

Then in the fourth canto, Marianas Water could not get their offense going early and when it did, DLX/Irish Spring had already secured a safe distance to steal the win. Only three players scored for Marianas Water in the fourth period with Joseph Galulu making four points and Resty Vergara and Melvin Capalad adding two and three, respectively.

As for DLX/Irish Spring, it was a team effort in the fourth with Bernard Samson, Sam Fernandez, Rick Brien, Roy Hernandez, and Trajano contributing to the cause.

Trajano got off to a good start, firing DLX/Irish Spring’s first nine points. Not to be outdone was Galulu, who knocked in eight, keeping Marianas Water in the game, 11-14.

Galulu added nine more markers in the second canto, scoring seven in succession, while Christian Devero chipped in eight to put Marianas Water in the driver’s seat at halftime, 36-31.

However, Marianas Water failed to keep the momentum in the second half, as Galulu was held scoreless in the third and had only two field goals in the fourth, while Devero was limited to six markers in the entire second half and their teammates did not step up.

In the Bracket B game, R-Lyn’s survived Gualo Rai.

The win was only the first in three games for R-Lyn’s, while Gualo Rai dropped to a 0-3 card.

R-Lyn’s led in the first three quarters and thwarted Gualo Rai’s fourth-quarter rally to break into the win column.

Mar Diaz paced R-Lyn’s with his 18 points, including four of the team’s 10 markers in the payoff canto. Noel Puno added 13, while his son, Mark made 8. Allen Reyes and Joel Buniag also had eight points apiece for R-Lyn’s.

JP Jose led Gualo Rai’s losing cause with his 15 markers.
