The U.S. government filed Thursday in federal court a superseding indictment against Mohammad Jahangir Miah and co-defendant Earl Eric Mirano in the scheme to cash fraudulent CNMI tax refund checks.

The new (replacement) indictment charged Miah and Mirano with bank fraud and conspiracy to commit bank fraud.

The new indictment added the charge of bank fraud and removed Cecilia Blas as defendant.

On Thursday, U.S. District Court for the NMI Chief Judge Ramona V. Manglona dismissed without prejudice the criminal case against Blas at the prosecution’s recommendation. That means the U.S. government can re-file a new suit on the same claim in the future.

Blas is the reportedly Miah’s girlfriend.
