Ex-CUC board chair OK’d to post property bond
Former Commonwealth Utilities Corp. board chair Francisco Q. Guerrero, who is facing charges of allegedly molesting a 16-year-old girl, was allowed to post a property bond yesterday.
Superior Court Associate Judge Kenneth L. Govendo said the property bond, described as a large piece of land, is in lieu of the $25,750 cash bail the court earlier imposed.
Govendo also prohibited the 62-year-old defendant from leaving the CNMI without court permission.
Defense attorney Brien Sers Nicholas asked to be given until 1pm today, Wednesday, to submit all the necessary papers for the property bond.
Arraignment will be on June 25 at 9am.
Assistant attorney general Shelli Neal appeared for the government.
A police detective stated in his report that, according to the girl, Guerrero first sexually abused her when she was in ninth grade and that five other incidents happened after that. The latest incident allegedly happened on May 25, 2012.
Gov. Benigno R. Fitial recently appointed Guerrero to the Marianas Public Land Trust board. The Senate has yet to confirm his nomination.
