Community Briefs — June 6, 2012

The Saipan Chamber of Commerce will be holding its general membership luncheon meeting today, June 6, 2012, at the Saipan World Resort Hotel. On the agenda is the Chamber’s annual college scholarship awards presentation where five high school students will be receiving their individual $2,000 cash scholarship awards. SCC has made these annual contributions for the past two decades, as a way to assist local students in attaining their own goal of a higher education.

PSS Commissioner Rita A. Sablan will be the keynote speaker, with an additional presentation by Geri Willis on the CNMI Northern Mariana College’s student apprenticeship program.

Luncheon at World Resort begins at 11:30am, while the meeting begins at 12pm sharp. Luncheon is $20 for Chamber members, and $30 for guests and the general public.[B][I] (SCC)[/I]

UOG students to attend SHRM annual conference[/B]

Four University of Guam Human Resources Management Students will be attending the Society for Human Resources Management’s Annual Conference and Exposition and the SHRM Annual Student Conference in Atlanta, Georgia from June 22 to 27, 2012.

The students are all members of the University of Guam SHRM Student Chapter. Attending the conferences are president Michael Conner, treasurer Sheena Jose, and members Phillip Delos Santos and Shiella Jose. Faculty adviser Dr. Richard Colfax will also attend. Among featured conference speakers this year are former U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, best-selling author Malcolm Gladwell, and renowned journalist Tom Brokaw. [B][I](UOG)[/I]

Cancer survivors’ stories today on John Gonzales Live[/B]

John Gonzales Live will feature today, June 6, 2012, the topic Cancer Survivors: Stories of Hope, Part 2. Guests include cancer survivors Claire Kosack, Edward T. Salas, and Cesar L. Dumatol.
