162 graduate from Palau Community College

Palau Community College held its 49th Commencement Exercises on May 25, 2012. Receiving their degrees and certificates were 110 PCC graduates, 15 Adult High School graduates, 32 San Diego State University bachelor’s degree graduates, and five graduates in Substance Abuse and Addiction Treatment Counseling Program (International & Regional).

The commencement speaker, U.S. Ambassador to Palau Helen Patricia Reed-Rowe, urged students to focus on their goals and keep moving forward to achieve them, whether they be short-term goals, five-year goals or even long-term goals. At the end of her address, Reed-Rowe announced that Palau Community College will be housing Education U.S.A., which is a U.S. government approved project that helps students and families have immediate access to information on U.S. colleges and universities.

San Diego State University officials who conferred the degrees on 32 SDSU graduates were Dr. Geoffrey Chase, dean, SDSU Undergraduate Studies; Dr. Theresa Lally, professor/program coordinator, Interwork Institute; and Dr. Caren L. Sax, co-director, Interwork Institute.

The 2012 valedictorian is Byron M. Silil, who completed his associate of science degree in Environmental/Marine Science program and a recipient of the Outstanding Student Award. Also receiving the Outstanding Student Award were Ashley Umetaro, Dante C. Rengiil, Desiree S. Seklii, Dannies Uehara, Jamaal B. Tewid, and Klerang K. Recheked.

The 2012 Outstanding Citizenship Award for outstanding participation, contribution and conduct in all campus life, community services, and academic was presented to Desiree S. Seklii.
