Koblerville, Garapan outclass foes

Koblerville and Garapan elementary schools emerged as the top performers in the elementary division of the 2012 McDonald’s 2012 PSS/McDonald’s All Schools Championship held mid this month at the Oleai Sports Complex.

The Umangs ruled the boys U8 and girls U12 contests in the All Schools meet that ran from May 17 to 19, while the Mallards prevailed in the boys U10 and U12 age groups. Completing the division champions in the elementary group were Gregorio T. Camacho Elementary School (girls U8) and William S. Reyes (girls U10).

Based on the results Northern Marianas Athletics released to Saipan Tribune last week, Koblerville collected 88 points from the running, jumping, and throwing events in the three-day competition, getting its biggest points (16) from the 200m race. Points were awarded to schools based on how their students placed in each event. The Umang also had earned 10 points each in the 100m and 400m runs, 4x100m, 4x400m, and mixed relay races, and softball throw, and six apiece in the 800m run and long jump.

Saipan Community School came in at second with its 46 points, followed by Garapan (40), GTC (23), and Kagman (22).

In the girls U8, GTC was the runaway winner with its 82 points. It also earned 16 points from the 100m run and 14 each in the long jump and 200m race. GTC then gained 10 markers each in the 400m and 60m runs and six in the 4x100m relay to beat Oleai (50) and Garapan (36).

Garapan asserted its might in the boys U10 division, getting points in eight of the 11 events contested in the age group. The Mallards totaled 85 points with the most coming from the softball throw (16) to prevail over Koblerville (66) and WSR (62).

In the girls U10, WSR was the top finisher with 90 points. The Kingfisher was also a powerhouse in the softball throw, getting 22 points, and had 18 in the long jump to stun favored Koblerville (82 points). Garapan rounded out the Top 3 with its 54 points.

The Mallards got their second championship trophy when they ruled the boys U12 division after tallying 105 points. Garapan lorded it over in the 400m run (25 points) and softball throw (22 points) to blow out WSR (70) and Dandan Elementary School (40).

Koblerville duplicated Garapan’s twin wins after reigning supreme in the boys U12 division. The Umangs logged 93 points after a strong showing in the 400m run (18 points) and softball throw (16 points). Koblerville won over Dandan (46) and Garapan (42).

[B]Hopwood, MHS deliver[/B]

In the junior high and high school divisions, Hopwood and Marianas High School lived up to expectations.

The Hilitais won both the boys and girls U14 divisions in convincing fashions. In the boys division, Hopwood collected 208 points, built on its impressive performance in the 60m (30 points), 100m (28), and 400m (29) runs. Tinian Junior High School came in at second with 64 points, while SCS finished third (58).

In the girls division, Hopwood dominated the sprints and was also a force in throwing events to gain 280 points and beat Tinian (36) anew and SCS (35). Saipan International School and Whispering Palms also joined the junior high division.

In the boys high school division, MHS got twin digits in all 14 events for 226 points, way ahead of Kagman High School (70) and Saipan Southern High School (62). In the girls division, the Lady Dolphins were also miles away with their 195 markers against the 68 and 56 of Southern and Kagman, respectively.
