Gov. Benigno R. Fitial, along with first lady Josie Fitial, left early yesterday morning for a personal, non-government funded trip, press secretary Angel Demapan said.

This Japan trip comes some two months since the governor’s last off-island trip in March.

Lt. Gov. Eloy S. Inos is now acting governor. Inos held a Cabinet meeting yesterday morning, mainly to share with Cabinet members the administration’s plans related to moving back into the Social Security system amid the NMI Retirement Fund’s Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing.

Demapan said while Fitial is in Japan “tending to personal matters, the governor will also take time to pay courtesy visits with travel partners KNT, JTB, and HIS.”

“During these visits, the governor is expected to thank the travel partners for their continued commitment to enhancing and growing our tourism industry. He will also attend the launching of Saipan Air’s office in Tokyo on Wednesday and in Osaka on Thursday, before returning back to Saipan on Friday,” the press secretary added.

Saipan Air’s inaugural flight is set for July 1.
