Underlining the importance of safety for all its customers, Century Tours arranged for its first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation or CPR trainings for all its tour guides and some of its tour operations clerks.

Nomi Ma, deputy general manager for Century Tours, said that about 20 individuals went through these trainings at the Saipan Grand Hotel on Wednesday and Thursday.

The trainings were conducted by first aid and CPR instructors John Aguon, Ed Johnson, and Jho Lacorte of the American Red Cross NMI Chapter. An in-house translator helped facilitate the trainings for the Chinese-speaking staff.

Ma said all participants who completed the trainings will receive two-year certifications attesting their eligibility to administer these emergency procedures, which are vital in their line of work as a tour company.

She noted that one employee will be trained to become a trainer, allowing Century Tours to have an in-house trainer that would conduct the trainings once the company hires more staff.

“These trainings will differentiate tour guides of Century Tours from those of other companies. Our customers will be protected,” Ma told Saipan Tribune.

Ma pointed out that these trainings are specified in the Century Tours Code of Conduct, which they strictly adhere to.

Century Tours, Ma said, will be handling the passengers of Saipan Air, a new airline company set to launch its maiden flight on July 1 and will carry passengers to and from Narita and Osaka in Japan and Beijing and Shenyang in China on a daily basis by Aug. 1.

From managing only 2,000 Chinese tourists a month, Ma said the numbers will significantly rise as they anticipate an additional 800 to 1,000 travelers daily from key Chinese cities.

With the island being surrounded by a vast body of water and most tourists engaged in marine activities, Ma said the trainings would be practical and valuable for Century Tours.

“We are a tour company that goes through proper trainings and we want our tourists to know that,” she added.

Besides first aid and CPR trainings, Century Tours staff also receive customer service and communications skills preparations to enhance their proficiency.
