Dear fellow active employees: As you read this you are paying for: judges with $100,000 pensions; adopted grandchildren on survivors’ benefits; retirees who have collected benefits since they were 32; Boston attorneys charging $475 an hour; and $3,163,495 for professional fees in 2011 alone.
Every two weeks you pay more than 11 percent of your paycheck into the Fund. With only two years and seven months left in the Fund, what left in it for you?
HB 17-226 allows you to take out your contributions regardless of years of service. Last Friday, the Fitial administration urged the Legislature to withdraw HB 17-226. Their reason? It would interfere with getting the NMI system into a deal with U.S. Social Security.
Premature? Social Security is far from a deal yet. And we need to see more details first. And, since it is our money, don’t you feel we should be given a choice?
So far the Fund has kept active members out of the loop. No information session has been offered us, or any other intentional communication. Funny thing, seems like they owe us something—after all we are paying for everything. The message is clear—they don’t really want you to know what’s happening to your money. Unless you stand up and make your voice counted.
Please come to the Multi-Purpose Center on Tuesday, May 22, 6:30pm. A number of active employees will be there to speak, and try their best to answer your questions.
