The U.S. government and the defense counsel have agreed to postpone again the sentencing of Franz B. Reksid, a former Department of Public Lands official convicted of bribery.

Assistant U.S. attorney Garth R. Backe and defense attorney Mark B. Hanson asked the U.S. District Court for the NMI to reset Reksid’s sentencing to June 19, 2012. He is supposed to be sentenced today, May 21, at 1:30pm.

Backe and Hanson stated they need more time to prepare for sentencing and provide the court with sentencing memoranda. The lawyers said this would be the fourth postponement of Reksid’s sentencing, but the first requested by the prosecution and the defendant.

Reksid is out on bail. His original sentencing date was Jan. 25, 2012.

A federal jury found the 71-year-old Reksid guilty of accepting a $3,000 bribe from the owner of a private company that obtained a federally funded contract from DPL.
