‘Anchors away’ for Hoe Lokahi tomorrow
Hoe Lokahi Canoe Club will have its season opening outrigger event starting tomorrow, May 19, beginning 8am in the waters off Killili Beach.
The group has invited fellow canoe clubs such as the Marianas Pacific Paddlers, Mas Fatuul, and the Saipan Outrigger Canoe Club, which will all compete in a series of men’s, women’s, and mixed crew 500m sprints this weekend.
The public is welcome to attend and cheer on all of the teams.
For those interested in paddling with the Hoe Lokahi Canoe Club, the group holds women’s practices on Monday and Wednesday at 5pm and on Saturday starting at 7:30am.
Men’s practices take place on Tuesdays at 5:30pm and 6:30am on Saturday in the waters off the Saipan World Resort beach next to the old Royal Taga Bar.
The club will be hosting monthly events as they train to compete in the 2012 Micronesian Cup, scheduled for Oct. 27 and 28.
The club is a non-profit organization created back in 2010 that competed in the 2011 Micronesian Cup held on Guam.
“Hoe lokahi” is a Hawaiian term that translates into “paddle in harmony.”
The club is currently seeking new individuals that are interested in incorporating paddling into their lifestyle, whether they are a novice or are experienced in the sport.
