A female Japanese tourist was robbed by an unidentified man who grabbed her purse as she was walking along Beach Road, Garapan.

The robbery occurred on May 2, 2012, but the Department of Public Safety, through the NMI Crime Stoppers Program, only released the information to the media yesterday.

Police officer Jason Tarkong said the 26-year-old victim was not injured but she lost a small light brown handbag that contained a white wallet, credit card, $120 cash, a pair of Paul & Joe sunglasses, a white Nikon digital camera, and a make-up kit.

The suspect was described as dark skinned, about 5’8” to 5’10” tall, with black short hair, thin build, weighing about 130 lbs, and wearing in a pair of purple shorts with dark T-shirt.

Police investigation showed that the victim was walking with a friend at 8pm on the sidewalk by Tico Rental Cars when the suspect grabbed her purse from behind.

The suspect ran across Beach Road in the direction of Shenanigan’s Restaurant and east to Corporal Jack Street.

This incident comes on the heels of another robbery that occurred on April 12. Police said a 57-year-old Filipino cashier at Cery Store in Kannat Tabla sustained minor head injuries when one of three unidentified persons dressed in black masks and black clothing assaulted her. The robbers took off with $500 cash.

That same day, a 32-year-old Chinese woman was robbed of her purse by an unidentified man as she was walking east along Orchid Street by the 3JM Vegetable Fruit Market in Garapan. The victim was not injured. Her purse contained $15 cash, a CNMI driver’s license, and a bicycle padlock.
