Delta Air Lines and IP&E have taken the lead as major sponsors of the 11th Annual HANMI Charity Golf Classic Tournament on June 2, 2012.

This year’s fundraising tournament of the Hotel Association of the Northern Mariana Islands will be held at Mariana Country Club and is open to the first 144 paid registrants. For hole-in-one prizes, Delta Air Lines has donated two roundtrip tickets to the U.S. or Honolulu, while IP&E is putting up $10,000 cash. If not won on the course, the airline tickets will be raffled off at the awards dinner that night.

“We thank Delta Air Lines and IP&E for their tremendous support,” said tournament chair Takahiro Omori. “We’d love to see another hole-in-one winner this year, and we’re looking forward to a great tournament benefiting CNMI charities.”

Previously, HANMI has supported NMI Crime Stoppers, the Department of Public Safety bike patrol program, PAWS, the Chinatown skatepark, the Victims Assistance Fund benefiting victims of the 2009 shooting incident on Saipan, Saipan Marathon, and other community causes.

HANMI has also allocated $20,000 toward the Mt. Tapochau Development Project being undertaken by the Marianas Visitors Authority.

Registration forms for the tournament are available at Mariana Country Club, Coral Ocean Point Resort,, Laolao Bay Golf Resort, Fiesta Resort & Spa, and Hyatt Regency Saipan.

Early bird tournament fee is $100 for payments received by 5pm on May 31. The fee includes green fee and the awards banquet. The fee increases to $120 on June 1. For an additional $20, players may also compete for nearest to the pin, most accurate drive, and longest drive.

The tournament will start at 7am and is limited to the first 144 paid registrants.

The tournament features six categories—Championship Flight, A Flight, B Flight, C Flight, Seniors (55 years-and-over), and Ladies. Players in the Championship Flight must have 0-5 handicaps, while those in A Flight are 6-10 handicappers.

The B Flight is for players with 11-17 handicap, while C Flight are for players with handicap 18 and up.

First place winners of all flights will receive $500, a trophy, and a hotel stay at one of the HANMI member hotels. Second place finishers will receive $300 and a trophy, and third place winners will receive $200 and a trophy. Winners (champion, first runner-up, and second runner-up) for the female golfers will be determined using the double Peoria handicap system. (HANMI)
