All School Championships starts today
The Commonwealth’s future track and field stars get to show their speed, strength, and endurance beginning today with the opening of the three-day PSS/McDonald’s 9th Annual All Schools Track and Field Championships at the Oleai Sports Complex.
The organizing Northern Marianas Athletics said the 2012 edition of the All Schools Track and Field Championships saw the first ever-elementary zone qualifiers (A, B, and C) with a record 489 students from 18 schools, both from the public and private schools with participants ranging in age from 5 to 18 years old.
Participating schools in the elementary division include William S. Reyes Elementary School, Saipan Community School, Gregorio T. Camacho Elementary School, Dandan Elementary School, Koblerville Elementary School, San Vicente Elementary School, Garapan Elementary School, Saipan International School, Kagman Elementary School, Oleai Elementary School, Whispering Palms, Tanapag Elementary School, and San Antonio Elementary School.
Hopwood Junior High School, Tinian Junior High School, Saipan International School, Whispering Palms School, Marianas High School, Kagman High School, and Tinian High School make up the high school division.
The All Schools Championships kicks off with 800m race for all age groups at 5:30pm. The opening ceremony will follow 30 minutes later at 6pm.
The 60m race for all age groups and the U14 and U16 discus throw start at 6:30pm, while the 1,500m and 4x400m relay for all age groups follow at 7pm and 7:45pm, respectively.
Day 2 will have the long jump (5pm), 3,000m (5:30pm), shot put (6pm), 100m (6pm), javelin (6:30pm), 200m (6:40pm), and 4x100m relay on tap, while the final day of the All Schools will see competitions in the softball throw (5:30pm), 400m (6pm), and mix medley relay (6:40pm).
The awards ceremony at 7:30pm concludes the 2012 All Schools Championships.
