The Commonwealth Utilities Corp., through its Power Division, continues its efforts to remove all non-government and unregistered private streetlights from the electrical grid.

Unregistered private streetlights are those that do not meet the description and criteria set by the Department of Public Works, according to CUC.

DPW defines government streetlights as those installed on the main territorial routes or dedicated public rights of ways that are registered with the agency.

CUC said it will remove all unregistered private streetlights from the electrical grid and place them at the base of the power pole from which they were detached.

Power Division manager Gary Camacho said that CUC already disconnected a total of 250 unregistered private streetlights from the electrical grid, which translates to 47,500 kilowatt hour-savings per month.

CUC is encouraging private streetlight owners to visit the Dandan office to register their existing streetlights.

“Once a private streetlight is registered, the customer will be charged for the reconnection and usage through the standard monthly billing process,” said the agency.

CUC line crew will also perform needed aesthetic adjustments for all streetlights to ensure that they are installed on every other pole starting from the intersection of each territorial route.
