DPS preps for Jailhouse Lock-Down fundraiser
The Department of Public Safety 2012 Police Week Committee said Friday that its Annual Law Enforcement Week activities are just around the corner and is inviting the general public to take part in its upcoming Jailhouse Lock-Down Fundraiser.
This event involves people visiting DPS or calling its hotline and posting a “bounty” on any of their friends or relatives whom they wish to have arrested. A fictitious arrest warrant will then be issued by the committee judge and bail will be set in the amount the judge finds suitable to fit the “charges.” After that, the officers will then head out and “arrest” the “suspect” on the warrant, bring them back to the “jailhouse” and lock him/her up.
The “arrestee” will then be brought before the “judge” who will then set bail or issue a “special court order” [i.e., for arrestee to either sing or dance or perform any other activity to have his/her bail lowered]. Or the person could just post the required bail amount and be released.
Rules: The minimum bounty for an arrest to take effect is $25. For bounties that reach or exceed $100, the arrestee must either “match” the amount or perform the activity ordered by the judge in order to get released.
Arrestees will be treated to a special island meal free of charge that will be provided by the committee. Door prizes such as the “most consecutively arrested person” and “highest bounty” will be given out at the site. (DPS)
