Nominations open for migration media awards
Nominations are now being accepted for the Migration Advocacy and Media or MAM Awards 2012.
The MAM Awards aims to recognize the “positive and significant” contributions of media in the Philippines and abroad in information dissemination and advocacy of news and concerns pertaining to migration and development.
The Inter-Agency Committee or IAC for the Celebration of the Month of Overseas Filipinos and International Migrants Day in the Philippines, which fall in December and on Dec. 18, respectively, conceived the MAM Awards in 2011.
IAC, which is chaired by the Philippine Migrants Rights Watch and co-chaired by the Commission on Filipinos Overseas, was established in 2007 through Administrative Order 202.
All individual, government, and private media outlets, institutions and practitioners in the fields of print, radio, movie and television, advertising and Internet-based in the Philippines and abroad, are eligible for the MAM Awards.
Categories for the awards are print journalism, radio journalism, television journalism, film media, interactive media, and advertisement awards.
Entries must be media works released or published from Oct. 1, 2011, to Sept. 30, 2012, and have raised public awareness on issues on Filipino migration, advocated the cause of Filipinos overseas, and/or promoted a positive image of Filipinos overseas.
All entries will be judged based on outstanding contribution in raising public awareness on issues related to Filipino migration; dedication and commitment in advocating for the rights, welfare and well-being of Filipinos overseas and/or their families in the Philippines; significant service in promoting a positive image of Filipinos overseas, and the migration and development nexus; and creativity, originality, and innovativeness of the media work.
Nominations may be made by any person or organization based in the Philippines or overseas. The nominating party may submit more than one entry in each category. Nomination forms may be downloaded at www.cfo.gov.ph.
Deadline for nominations is on Sept. 30. Results will be released on or before Nov. 15, with the MAM Awards ceremony to take place during the annual celebration of the International migrants Day in the Philippines on or before Dec. 18.
