New citizens during Law Week
U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services and the U.S. District Court for the Northern Mariana Islands will hold a special naturalization ceremony today in honor of Law Day.
U.S. District Court Chief Judge Ramona V. Manglona will administer the oath of allegiance to five citizenship candidates, who hail from the Marshall Islands and the Philippines. USCIS immigration services officer Diane Zedde will present the candidates to the court.
USCIS holds special ceremonies in an effort to bring the immigration process alive for the community. Law Day, a national day to recognize the country’s commitment to the rule of law, is a memorable day for new citizens to join the United States of America. The 2012 Law Day theme, “No Courts, No Justice, No Freedom,” underscores the importance of the courts and their role in ensuring access to justice.
The District Court is celebrating Law Week with a “Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day” during which the children of federal agency employees learn about the CNMI’s federal court and its partners. Zedde will give a short overview of the naturalization process prior to the ceremony.
