CUC chases away investors
It’s been many years that people have been paying for the fuel charge to help CUC recover but the more we pay the more they raise their charges. Even in these hard times, they still raise their rates. I wonder what else they will raise. Perhaps it’s time to ask the government to investigate them and check whose salaries at CUC are raised and by how much. Also, to check if the fuel charge is really being used for its purpose.
If you walk into any store, the hospital, government offices, PSS, the entire CNMI, they are all complaining about CUC’s rates and how it affects their businesses, their health, and our lives. The entire CNMI is working only to pay for CUC’s fuel charge.
I think it’s time to demand answers because if we don’t, pretty soon our government is going to shut down. And yes, it’s not just the Retirement Fund that is bankrupt, it is also our government. Look, because of CUC, people are cutting expenses, businesses are raising prices, the hospital is in a state of emergency, the government cannot pay the matching funds and the list goes on. Why? Because of the CUC fuel charge. I have a brother who is a licensed electrical engineer who tells me that we need to do something about CUC.
Members of the Legislature and Governor Fitial, I think it’s time for you to ask the federal government to investigate CUC since you’re not capable of doing it. I’m not saying that you don’t know how to do your job, but sometimes it is better to ask for help than try to fix it yourself when you don’t know how.
Since the implementation of the fuel charge, a lot of people have become depressed and many make desperate decisions just so they can pay for utility service. Leaders, too, make desperate decisions just so they can pay for utility services. I remember one time the court went for a recess because CUC turned off the power for repairs. You see, people who depend on utility services make decisions out of desperation.
God help us all.
