Four students of Garapan Elementary School were inducted to the National Junior Honor Society in a ceremony held at the school stage yesterday morning. The newest NJHS members are Joyce Nisola, Roland Balajadia, Jeanica Bonachita, and Louise Li.

Associate Justice Alexandro Castro inducted the four students who all received NJHS certificates, Supreme Court Pledge forms, NJHS Stole, membership cards, pins, and candles.

Besides Castro, Rep. Edmund Villagomez also joined teachers, school staff, Parent-Teacher Association officers and other parents, and the student body in attending Monday’s ceremony.

GES’ Teacher of the Year Melisa Mendez delivered inspirational remarks.

Established in 1929, NJHS aims to recognize students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of scholarship, leadership, service, citizenship, and character. The national organization has chapters throughout the states and territories.

School principal Paulette Sablan, one of the NJHS admin advisers, said the inductees “exemplify how we as a school strive for excellence.” The students, she said, can achieve anything through perseverance and effort.

“We want to thank the parents, teachers, staff, and community partners who have one way or the other contributed to the success of these newly inducted members,” added Sablan.

For his part, NJHS adviser and school counselor Derwin Johnson said the organization’s newest members were given the prestigious honor because they have worked “extremely hard” to get to where they are now.

“We as a school have changed our NJHS criterion for selection to meet our standard based system and content that this school year’s student members are very deserving of their induction into the society,” Johnson told Saipan Tribune. “I wish nothing but the best and success in their educational journey!”

Other advisers for NJHS are Walter Mendez, co-adviser; Mary Grace Mendoza, teacher adviser and administration; and vice principal Liela Yumul, admin adviser.
