Fiesta Resort & Spa employees under the Food and Beverage department spent time outside of work Tuesday night and let their hair down for their quarterly party held at Ocean’s Bar at Paseo de Marianas in Garapan.

About 40 F&B staffers from various dining outlets took a break from serving alcoholic drinks to customers as they themselves became the customers, enjoying cocktail drinks, wines, and beers for a night of fun and entertainment.

“Our quarterly parties are aimed at motivating our staff by giving them an opportunity to enjoy and have fun with their co-workers outside of work,” said F&B manager Das Krishnan, who noted that only half of the over 80 employees are able to make it to the party as some of them are still at work.

Krishnan said F&B staffers work different shifts, have different lifestyles or become busy with their own families that they don’t get the chance to mingle with the rest of the team. The quarterly party, he said, seeks to gather the staff to relax and unwind without their spouses or significant other, children, and friends outside work.

Krishnan disclosed that the initiative actually started as a once-a-year party held right after the New Year celebration. However, they decided to hold it every quarter by designated committees and they’ve been doing it for a year now—and with great response.

“My motto is to work hard, play hard, and I want the staff to do the same,” he told Saipan Tribune. “The quarterly party is also a way to give moral support to the employees, the backbone of the F&B and the company as a whole.”

Krishnan, who has worked at Fiesta Resort & Spa for about four years, noted that they chose Oceans Bar as their party venue because of its convenient location which is only a walking distance away from the hotel and some of the employees’ residences. This allows F&B employees to attend the party right after their shift without even taking their cars so they don’t have to drive going home.

The F&B manager pointed out that while the staff’s loyalty and dedication to the company has become evident after years of employment at Fiesta Resort & Spa, there is still a need to reinforce to them that great service comes first at one of the biggest hotels on island. To demonstrate this, Krishnan said employees need to be driven and inspired, and this is where the quarterly parties come into the picture.

Tuesday night’s shindig also featured a singing contest, parlor games, and a raffle draw with exciting prizes donated by the hotel’s suppliers, most notably Pacific Trading Co.

Asked for his message to the F&B department, Krishnan said, “I want them to work hard, party hard. Enjoy their jobs. Also, I want them to have a goal plan because when they do, they have focus in their life. When you have a plan, you always remember where you want to be and you work hard to achieve it.”
