Police and medics have established that there was no foul play in the death of a Filipino steelman at the American Memorial Park near Micro Beach on Sunday night.

Police said yesterday that Arnel M. Orbita’s initial cause of death was ruled as sudden cardiac arrest or heart attack.

Saipan Tribune learned that the 40-year-old Orbita was with a woman when the incident happened.

Police said that medics transported Orbita, who was already unresponsive at the time, from the American Memorial Park to the Commonwealth Health Center where he was pronounced dead by a doctor at 9:53pm.

Saipan Tribune learned that prior to the incident, Orbita and some friends were drinking outside Orbita’s house in Chalan Kanoa. After their drinking session, the group ended up at the Saipan cockpit in Garapan. Shortly before the start of the cockfight at 7:45pm, Orbita left and boarded a taxi that already had another passenger, a woman. The woman was said to be Orbita’s companion when he died.

Police said the female witness disclosed that she and Orbita were playing billiards and drinking at Sands Bar in western Garapan when they decided to walk across to the American Memorial Park. After walking for a while, the two sat on a parking stall to rest. As they were talking, Orbita allegedly fell on his back and appeared to be having a seizure.

Police said the symptoms described were consistent with cardiac arrest.

Orbita’s friends and co-workers could not believe that the steelman died of cardiac arrest as he was known for being energetic and muscular.

“He’s a happy guy and kind,” one co-worker said.

One co-worker urged DPS to investigate the case thoroughly as Orbita allegedly recently received a death threat over a woman. The co-worker refused to elaborate.

RNV Construction had just hired Orbita a few months ago. His CW permit is still being processed.
