Sorensen is newest MMAC title sponsor
Sorensen Media Group Saipan has stepped up to the plate to support the 2012 Marianas March Against Cancer.
Representatives of the company that runs radio stations Power 99 and The KAT 97.9 and television station ABC7 met yesterday with MMAC public relations committee chair Christopher Concepcion, Commonwealth Cancer Association board member Maggie Camacho and program director Juan L. Babauta at their Garapan office to discuss plans to help promote the largest cancer fundraising event in the CNMI.
Tina Palacios, branch manager for Sorensen Media Group Saipan, said they are donating $5,000 worth of radio ads and in-studio interviews with MMAC committee members. Sorensen will also do on-site remote coverage, making the company a title sponsor for this year’s event.
“But there is really no dollar value when it comes to supporting a cause like MMAC,” Palacios told Saipan Tribune. “Lives are affected and there is no dollar value that can correspond to those lives.”
Palacios noted that everybody in the community is affected by cancer “somewhere down the line,” thus the need not just to raise awareness about this deadly disease.
“We shouldn’t wait for MMAC to happen. The awareness should be out there all the time—constantly,” she said.
Palacios lauded all those who initiated MMAC for having the “vision” 10 years ago to do a worthy cause for all those who have battled or are still battling cancer.
“Hopefully in the future, we won’t have a lot of people fighting it, that we’ll find a cure so we can celebrate more people who have fought cancer,” she said.
Palacios said that Sorensen Media Group Saipan has been an MMAC supporter “for a long, long time.” “As long as we’re still around, we will always be a part of MMAC,” she added.
CCA’s Camacho thanked Sorensen Media Group for supporting anew the MMAC, which is slated for April 27 to 28 at the Hopwood Jr. High School field in Chalan Piao.
“We look forward to their continued involvement toward the eradication of cancer. Through their assistance, we hope to be raising more awareness through our programs so that the community would become more aware and know what steps to take in dealing with cancer,” said Camacho.
