Comets’ Mendiola, Ol’Aces’ Secharmidal flying high in Majors
Rep. Joseph P. Guerrero Dandan Comets’ leadoff hitter Aurel Mendiola and IT&E Ol’Aces’ do-it-all man Virgil Secharmedal are lording it over the statistical race of the ongoing Saipan Little League Major Division.
Mendiola has hammered 24 hits in 32 at bats for an impressive 0.774 batting average.
Close on his heels is DPS Dare Program- JPO Enforcers’ Kier Agda (18-24/0.750) with Comets’ Ethan Babauta (13-20/0.650), Natibu Sports Association-Tanapag Falcons’ Benen Iguel (11-19/0.579), Pacific Amusements-Rays’ Nathaniel Torres (13-23/0.565) and Jay Kalen (13-24/0.542), Ol’Aces’ Secharmidal (19-36/0.528), Natibu-Tanapag Braves’ Andres Camacho 12-23/0.522) and Enforcers’ Dennis Cabrera (10-20/0.500) rounding out the Top 9. Five other players with at least 18 at bats swinging 0.450 or better, while another half dozen are batting upwards of 0.400.
Mendiola leads the league in runs scored with 22, and in triples with five, while Secharmidal’s 16 RBIs fronts Agda (15) and As Matuis Twins’ Richard John Atalig (14). However, Agda has belted eight homers so far this year to lead three others with three apiece.
Secharmidal, Enforcers’ Shakobe Rangamar, San Vicente A’s Christian Lizama share the lead in doubles with six apiece; Babauta, Enforcers’ Joaquin Saralu, Braves’ Brandon Pua, and Bank of Saipan Red Sox’s Chabo Leon Guerrero each have five doubles.
On the mound Secharmodal (5-2) has allowed 12 earned runs through 31.2 innings off 21 hits for a 2.27 earned run average when comparing pitchers with at least 21 innings of work.
He leads Atalig (2.79), Pua (3.07), Lizama (3.19), and IT&E’s Matt Kapileo (4.91) in ERA.
Secharmodal has rang up 73 strikeouts through eight games to pace Atalig (66), Pua (65), and Kapileo (62). Lizama has seven appearances.
