Senate panel recommends confirmation of NMC appointee
The Senate Committee on Executive Appointments and Government Investigations is recommending full Senate confirmation of Gov. Benigno R. Fitial’s appointee to the Northern Marianas College Board of Regents.
Fitial re-appointed Elaine H. Orilla to serve on the NMC Board of Regents on March 13.
A month later or on April 11, the Senate EAGI Committee issued its report to the full Senate recommending Orilla’s confirmation.
“After much deliberation and based on our overall assessment of Mrs. Orilla’s credentials, experiences, testimonials and all other relevant issues considered, we are convinced beyond a doubt that Mrs. Orilla possesses the necessary qualification and leadership skills necessary to serve as a member of the Northern Marianas College Board of Regents,” said the EAGI Committee chaired by Sen. Frank Cruz (R-Tinian).
The committee has yet to make a recommendation whether to support or reject the re-appointment of Sixto Igisomar to the NMI Retirement Fund board.
The panel report on Orilla comes three weeks after the Senate rejected two of Fitial’s appointees to the Commonwealth Public Utilities Commission and the Marianas Public Land Trust. Viola Alepuyo was supposed to serve another term on CPUC, while Gregoria Fitial-Omar was supposed to serve again on the MPLT board of trustees. Fitial-Omar is the governor’s younger sister.
