OAG moves to revoke bail of suspected ‘ice’ trafficker
The Office of the Attorney General has moved to revoke the bail of a suspected trafficker of methamphetamine or “ice” after his third-party custodian was recently arrested for allegedly burglarizing the Garapan Elementary School.
Assistant attorney general Shelli L. Neal asked the Superior Court to revoke and forfeit the $4,000 cash that defendant Sunzhen Lu had posted.
Neal requested the court to remand Lu into the custody of the Department of Corrections.
Last week, Superior Court associate judge Kenneth L. Govendo ordered Lu to provide a new third party custodian 24 hours before the next hearing.
Govendo ordered the parties in the case to appear on Wednesday, April 18 at 3:30pm, for a hearing on the motion to revoke bail.
Police arrested Lu on Jan. 2, 2012 for trafficking and illegal possession of controlled substance.
The Office of the Attorney General subsequently filed an information charging Lu with the same charges for selling $300 worth of “ice” on Dec. 31, 2011 on Saipan.
On Feb. 3, 2012, the court granted Lu’s second application for bail modification by reducing the bail from $30,000 to $4,000 cash and approving John Reyes Jr. as third-party custodian.
Neal said that, on March 30, 2012, Lu’s third-party custodian, Reyes, was arrested in connection with the Garapan Elementary School burglary.
Neal said Reyes violated the terms and conditions set forth by the court as the bail order required him to be able to supervise Lu and to report any violation.
Reyes, the deputy director of Division and Recreation, was arrested along with Mario O. Sablan, a staff at the same division, for allegedly burglarizing several classrooms and storage rooms at Garapan Elementary School and carting off more than $6,000 worth of equipment and other instructional materials on March 25, 2012.
