Telecommunications provider Docomo Pacific yesterday made a donation to support the 31st Annual Flame Tree Arts Festival.

James Nelson, general manager for Saipan operations, and other Docomo Pacific staff presented the $2,000 check donation and $1,000 worth of prepaid phones as raffle prizes to deputy secretary Rhonda Nogis of the Department of Community and Cultural Affairs and executive director Angel S. Hocog of the Arts Council.

Yesterday’s donation makes Docomo Pacific a “Micronesia” sponsor for the annual event. This sponsorship level is given to individuals or organizations that give monetary or in-kind donations worth $2,001 to $4,999.

“Docomo Pacific supports the Arts Council in hosting the 31st Annual Flame Tree Arts Festival because we recognize the importance of keeping arts and culture alive in the community. We look forward to supporting the festival for years to come,” said Nelson.

Nelson, former manager of the Guam Visitors Bureau, underscored the need for community involvement in the promotion, preservation, and perpetuation of arts and culture in the CNMI. “The Flame Tree Arts Festival is one avenue to do it,” he said.

Arts Council’s Hocog said that Docomo Pacific’s sponsorship participation “is a great response to the challenge given by the Arts Council and the festival committee to the community—to ‘Be A Part’ of the promotion, preservation, and perpetuation of arts and culture in the CNMI.”

“With the support of Docomo Pacific and other sponsors, we hope to have a Flame Tree Arts Festival that everyone can be proud of,” he added.

The festival’s other sponsors include Bridge Capital, Delta Air Lines, Tan Siu Lin Foundation, and IT&E.

The 31st Annual Flame Tree Arts Festival is slated for April 20 to 22 at the Civic Center Park in Susupe.

The three-day festival will feature a wide selection of artwork for sale by CNMI registered and non-registered artists, traditional or contemporary, using different mediums.

The event will also showcase presentations from local and guest performing groups and musicians, art demonstrations, and an array of festival food favorites.
