US envoy meets NMI delegation
U.S. Ambassador to Russia Michael McFaul met briefly with the Northern Mariana Islands delegation to last month’s Moscow International Travel & Tourism Exhibition, bringing attention to this U.S. aligned Commonwealth that welcomes Russian visitors without the usual U.S. visa requirements.
During his one-hour visit to the travel fair on March 22, 2012, McFaul visited the Northern Marianas destination presentation to potential travelers, media, and travel representatives. He also stopped by the NMI and Guam exhibition booth, where a gift was presented to him by Marianas Visitors Authority managing director Perry Tenorio.
“As a U.S. Commonwealth, the Northern Mariana Islands of Saipan, Tinian, and Rota continue to welcome Russian visitors each year without requiring a visa, and we were very pleased to share what we have to offer potential visitors with Ambassador McFaul,” said Tenorio. “We look forward to welcoming even more Russians to our western Pacific paradise this year.”
The MVA has supported a number of familiarization tours by Russian travel agents and media over the last few years, underscoring the growing interest in this beach resort destination among Russians, Kazakhstanis (Kazakhs) and visitors from other former Soviet states. (MVA)
