Fashion show a preview of Project: PROM outfits
The Northern Marianas Coalition Against Domestic & Sexual Violence will be hosting a mini-fashion show to showcase the dresses and suits that were donated by various businesses and individuals in support of Project: PROM.
The show is scheduled for Thursday, April 5 at about 7:30pm or 8pm in front of Power 99 office along Paseo de Marianas in Garapan.
Coalition program assistant Keala Peters said that the fashion show aims to give the audience, particularly public high school students, a preview of the dresses, suits, and accessories they will distribute to selected public high school students.
Interested high school students have until April 11 to fill out and submit a form that includes an essay on how to become an advocate against domestic and sexual violence.
“We want to reach out to students and encourage them to become advocates against violence in the community, which would qualify them to be among the recipients of the donated prom dresses and suits,” Peters told Saipan Tribune.
Donated items will be distributed to eligible recipients on April 14 at the Pedro P. Tenorio Multi-Purpose Center, during which a workshop covering prom-related topics will be hosted by the coalition and the group Teen Talk.
Project: PROM, an innovative awareness campaign that seeks to empower high school students about healthy relationships while making prom affordable for them, is in celebration of Sexual Assault Awareness Month.
As part of the celebration, the coalition is also scheduled to conduct a Walk Against Sexual Violence every Wednesday in April.
Tomorrow’s walk will be held at William S. Reyes Elementary School in Chalan Kanoa. Registration starts at 4pm; the walk will begin at 4:30pm. The first 75 walkers will get a free shirt.
